wherein I explain my visual expressions in words

"Mama and Me" is a painting of a special mare who still runs wild on Assateague, VA and her foal that now lives on our little farm in Hellam, PA.

Here's just enough history for you and, if you want to more, please follow the links. Assateague ,VA is home to the wild Chincoteague Pony Herd, for which the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company holds a permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to own and manage.  

Splash (of Freckles) is the mare I painted. You can see her running wild when cross the bridge from Chincoteague and onto Assateague. The foal running with her is her colt Breau, whom I purchased at the pony auction in 2022. Breau is now a gelding and a yearling and lives here happily with his full-blooded sister, Destiny, age two, and Eeyore, a 2017 CI pony out of the famous Phantom Mist. 

So, why did I paint this? Well, first of all, I love Splash. We seem to have an affinity for each other. She has the most beautiful mane and tail and she passed this along to her 2021 daughter, my very own Destiny. 

And the ponies really do run through and swim in the marshes and Assateague Bay. Thrilling for people to watch, their water play cools them and helps get rid of what I call the Assateague Air Force (mosquitoes). 

So, I painted this with the beauty of these ponies and of the island in mind.
