wherein I explain my visual expressions in words

It's about summertime and sunrise and the magic of seeing wild horses splashing through the bay at the morning light shimmers on the water and dances on them. 

This painting is based on three very real horses and an equally real place. A place of magic. Truly.

Wild ponies, known as Chincoteague Ponies, live on the beautiful barrier island of Assateague, VA. Observing them is a hobby for me and we actually own four take-home Chincoteagues purchased at the annual pony penning auction. In this scene, I sought to capture the vibrant beauty of an island sunrise and the energy of Riptide and his mares, Summer and Suede. It's highly impressionist in the splash of the water and the reflected light on the ponies.
