wherein I explain my visual expressions in words

Well, first: Please do visit Wildflowers,  at 4028 Main St , Chincoteague, VA, United States, Virginia, because this shop is amazing. It is also where you can see and buy my intuitive floral paintings, which I've been making and selling for years. Actually, making these is one of my favorite ways to paint because there is no plan. 

There is no reference photo or outdoor resource, it is just the paint and me, designing in a state of joy. 

My intuitive florals are not without artful elements and principles and they are, in fact, based on old practices and theories.

Look closely at each painting and you will see pentimento, or earlier marks, forms and images that I altered or painted over. Instead of masking these, I left them show as I added layers of paint and new forms. Doing so gives each piece a visual history and a glimpse into my creative heart and mind.

I paint them large, medium and small format. The most popular sizes have been the long 24 by 48 and the square 12 by 12, which collectors often buy in a pair of two or a set of three. 

Overall, whether I create miniatures or super-sized intuitive florals, each is based in the concept of wabi-sabi, which embraces finding beauty in imperfection and accepting the natural cycle of life. Above all, wabi-sabi reveres authenticity and that pretty much sums up the way I AM. You either accept my perfectly imperfect self or not. ;-) 

The scars of our histories are an integral and even beautiful part of our experience in life. There is no need to disguise or feel shame. That’s wabi-sabi. A great way to live.
