The Power of Water portrayed in Violet Falls

What fun I had working with the journey and power of water.

Water is never still, even when a landscape feels hushed. In Violet Falls, the river gathers beneath a warm horizon before spilling over dark rock in flowing veils of violet, turquoise, and soft gray. The scene holds both motion and calm: the waterfall descends with quiet force, while mist softens its edges and greenery rests at the water’s edge.

The palette gives the painting its distinctive atmosphere. Cool purples and blue-greens create a sense of depth and coolness, while the subtle glow above the falls brings warmth to the scene. Dark rocks anchor the composition, guiding the eye through the shifting water and into the distance. Rather than describing every detail, the softened forms invite you to linger and feel the landscape.

I created Violet Falls as an invitation to pause—to imagine the sound of water moving through a secluded forest and the stillness that surrounds it. Its gentle movement can bring a composed, contemplative presence to a living room, study, or gallery wall, offering something new to notice each time you return to it.

Like the river itself, this painting balances change with serenity. It brings the feeling of a misty woodland waterfall indoors: cool, luminous, and quietly alive.

Violet Falls is 12 by 16 on Pastelmat board and it is available here, unframed, in the online gallery.

As always, thanks for stopping in the studio.
